About us
Welcome to the story of SmithTaylor, a journey that began in 2012 by Peter and Sue Smith. Their vision? To fill the world with quality coasters and placemats, launching into the premium tableware scene in the UK. Fast forward 9 years, SmithTaylor grew and blossomed with ownership passing to Wraptious in 2021. A vibrant gift manufacturer whose journey began on Manchester market stalls, Wraptious passionately supports artists and businesses with sustainable and premium giftware.
Our Pershore premises in Worcestershire is where the SmithTaylor magic happens. Proudly bearing the Made in Britain mark, we craft our wares with eco-consciousness at our core, using materials sourced from FSC-certified suppliers and planting a tree for every order. Over 120,000 trees and counting since 2019! Our approach supports small businesses too, offering flexibility with low minimum orders, quick turnarounds and prices that kindly ignore inflation's upward climb.
Our customer service? Imagine your favourite barista, the one who nails your coffee order every time - that's how we aim to treat you: with personal, friendly and passionate service.
That's us. We're not just about selling tableware, we're about building relationships with our customers, making a difference, planting trees and making the world a shinier place, one coaster at a time.
Meet the Team
All our products are lovingly printed, laminated, cut and hand-finished on site.
Watch our coasters being made, showing each of the steps from gluing, printing, laminating, cutting and packing.
-
Step 1: Gluing
First, our cork sheets are glued to the Eucalyptus boards, all sustainably sourced. Glued using our mechanical glue roller that ensures an even and consistent coat, then left to set for 24-48 hours.
-
Step 2: Printing onto Vinyl
We print your artwork to a 100 micron thin vinyl, using high grade pigment inks on our wide format printer. The vinyl is perfectly suited for long-term indoor use, and our inks allow for a wide colour spectrum.
-
Step 3: Laminating Vinyl Roll
A crystal or smooth lamination is then applied to the vinyl print, using our large flatbed laminator. This seals your artwork and protects the coaster from scratching, reasonable levels of heat and water.
-
Step 4: Adhesion to Hardboard
We then adhere the vinyl to the boards using a solvent adhesive ideal for long-term adhesion. It can take a week for the laminate to settle, so you may notice a slight grainyness to the print if we ship your coasters quickly. This goes away after a few days.
-
Step 5: CNC Cutting
With all the components of your coaster or placemat now together, the board is placed onto our CNC machinery to cut them out to the desire size. We can also cut any shape you require, for a one-off tooling charge.
-
Step 6: Coaster Edge Sanding
All our coasters and placemats are individually hand-finished. We meticulously sand the edges to ensure a smooth, consistent quality, whilst quality checking that they meet our high standards.
-
Step 7: Sorting and Packing
Once hand-finished and quality-checked, your products are ready to ship to you! We use tailor-made boxes that perfectly fit our products, ensuring less damage during transit whilst reducing volume and carbon mileage.
-
Step 8: Planting a Tree
Now that your order is dispatched, we will plant a tree for your order, through our partners Trees For The Future. So far we have planted over 120,000 trees, and you can find out more on our sustainability page!
